The Liverpool Echo have reported that “barring any unforeseen developments in the market between now and August 8, sporting director Michael Edwards’ brief will be a watching one.”
Andrew Robertson back-up – “An option may present itself over the next four weeks, but if not, Klopp is happy to start the season with Gomez and Milner as potential deputies to Robertson.”
Alisson Becker back-up – “Simon Mignolet is expected to stay as it stands, with the dependable shot-stopper providing top-class competition for first choice Alisson Becker.”
A versatile forward – “A versatile forward remains tentatively on the agenda, but the Reds are not thought to be aggressively chasing down a move at this stage.”
Liverpool fans are understandably upset, but on the other hand, Klopp is clearly happy with the options that he has at his disposal. It’ll be interesting to see how pre-season plays out, and what impact the likes of Harry Wilson and Ryan Kent can make, and what sort of shape the Brazilian duo and our African players are in when they come back from international duty. Mignolet is a reliable deputy for Alisson, and Gomez and Milner have proven their value when stepping in across the backline, but surely more depth is needed?
6 competitions this season…is the squad big enough?
