According to the Evening Standard, Simon Mignolet “is keen to reignite his career this summer by moving on in search of regular football.”
Crystal Palace are believed to be interested and are thought to be preparing an £8 million bid for the Belgian. Which in today’s market would be an absolute steal. The Evening Standard report states that, “while club chiefs are reluctant to publicly place a value on an asset they aren’t keen to sell, it is known that the £8million bid Crystal Palace are believed to be preparing would not be sufficient to bring them to the table.”
It’s no surprise to us that Mignolet wants to move on, given that he’s a very good goalkeeper who could easily be a number one at most Premier League clubs. But Klopp is evidently keen to keep Mignolet at Anfield and sees him as “a key element of the dressing-room chemistry that proved vital to last season’s European success.”
It’ll be interesting to see how this one plays out – Liverpool haven’t been linked with too many goalkeepers this summer, so it’d be a surprise if Mignolet did depart.
